Kiss This by The Struts
This song is rock music, based off of popular English rock bands from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Queen, The Rolling Stones, and a few other popular bands are the main inspiration for this band’s music. Kiss This has a fast tempo, like a lot of rock music. The sound is somewhat cacophonous, relating to the tone of the song about bad relationships ending. The song has a homophonic texture.

What drew you
I have a buddy who loves music, and when he found out I was going to London he started recommending a ton of British music to me. This song resonated with me, I really liked the sound of their music. The Struts is trying to revive the 80’s big hair rock star thing in today’s world, which I thought was pretty crazy and kinda cool.
Social Angle
This song, like most rock and roll, is more serious than other forms of mainstream music. This song in particular is about a bad relationship, which is something most people can relate to. Many people in their lives have a relationship go wrong, and even though it’s not always a romantic relationship like the one portrayed in the song, it can still hurt. It is arguable that a friendship gone wrong, like the friend “Thomas” that the singer mentions having to cease being friends with, can hurt worse. A social angle for this song is relationships, and how hurtful it can be when they end. Any relationship can be applied to this, romantic, friendships, even parent-child relationships can be so painful to give up. But sometimes, they’re just bad for you. Also maybe sometimes they’re not just bad for you psychologically but also for your schoolwork if they result in you having an unstable living situation.
