The Place Dance recital was a contemporary dance recital of the graduating students. Contemporary dance is a style of modern dance. The purpose of the recital was a graduation performance for the best dancers, and it featured many different performances. One performance, based on time and how things move and change, had lots of repetition. Many of the performances had the dancers miming out different scenarios, as different people. The music changed with each piece, reflecting different tones and themes per piece. The performances left me a little confused, but I felt like I could understand some of the message that each piece was trying to get across.
History
The Place is the location for the London Contemporary Dance School, a dance school that endeavors to provide scholarships for less well-off dancers in London. The London Contemporary Dance School has been training the best contemporary dancers in London for the past 40 years.
What drew me
My group decided this was a good place to use as out project for class, and even though I was not big on dance I was excited to see a performance. I spent a good deal of the show trying to just figure out what messages the dancers were trying to communicate, and I found it quite enjoyable. I always love a good challenge, and it was exciting to experience new things.
Social Angle
The social angle that relates to this was one of the performances had a bunch of little mistreated kids burning a girl. This reminds me of the foster care system, and how horrible it is. Many kids in the system get abused and mistreated and neglected. These kids were clearly not taken care of like they should’ve been, which is not okay. The foster care system was created to help kids, but it has a reputation of doing so much harm.
